March for Science Launceston

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

March for Science Launceston

19 April 2017 - Launceston, along with nine other Australian cities (https://marchforscienceaustralia.org/cities/) and over 500 cities in 54 countries (https://www.marchforscience.com/satellite-marches/), will host the March for Science on 22 April. The march will bring science enthusiasts from all walks of life together to champion science and highlight its importance to society.

The March for Science is a grassroots nonpartisan movement championing publicly communicated and adequately funded science as a pillar of human freedom and prosperity. Beginning as a single event in Washington DC, it has grown to become a global movement. It calls for all political leaders and policymakers to adopt evidence-based policies in the public interest.

Australia’s marches are aimed at highlighting the need for stable investment in science, a commitment to higher levels of scientific literacy through education, open communication of scientific findings, and public policy to be guided by evidence.

Here in Launceston, we will begin with a short rally at 10:30 am outside the School of Architecture & Design, University of Tasmania with “Speakers & Open Mic” in the Rory Spence VOS Construction Lecture Theatre from 11 am.

No one’s life is untouched by science. March for Science asks all Australians to join us on 22 April to ensure that scientific endeavour for the good of all prevails.
